Tělo: Dalmatin má silný a rovný hřbet s dobře patrným kohoutkem. Silná bedra jsou mírně klenutá, zadní partie je svalnatá a dobře zaoblená. U kořene široký ocas se zužuje do špičky.Dosahuje téměř k hlezenním kloubům a je nošen svěšený v lehkém oblouku. Neširoká hruď je prostorná a hluboká, žebra jsou dobře klenutá. suché osvalené lopatky leží poměrně šikmo, lokty dobře navazují. Rovné končetiny mají kulaté kosti, kolena jsou dobře zaúhlená. dalmatin má tzv. kočičí tlapky, což znamená, že tlapky jsou zaoblené a dobře uzavřené s pevnými klenutými prsty. Poměrně dlouhý krk se elegantně klene.
Hlava: Značně louhá hlava má plochou, mezi ušima širokou lebku. Čelo je bez vrásek.. Stop je nepříliš vyjádřený. Tlama dalmatina je dlouhá a silná, nikdy špičatá, pysky jsou pevně přiléhající. Jemné a tenké, vysoko nasazené uši jsou středně velké. Jsou svěšené a těsně přiléhají k tvářím. Kulaté oči posazené, poměrně daleko od sebe jsou středně velké, jasné s živým výrazem. Víčka dobře přiléhají. Dalmatin má nůžkový skus.
Kohoutková výška: ideální výška je u psů 56-61 cm, u fen 54-59 cm. důležitější však je celkový obraz psa.
Hmotnost: Hmotnost dalmatina se pohybuje v rozmezí váží 24-32 kg.
Srst: Srst je krátka, tvrdá, hustá, hladká a lesklá.
Barvy: Plemeno se vyskytuje ve dvou varietách: v játrově a černé. Zakládní barva je vždy čiště bílá. Znaky uvedených barev jsou ostře ohraničené a mají v průměru 2-3 cm. V ideálním případě se neslévají a jsou pěkně rozmístěny po celé ploše psa. Znaky na končetinách musí být menší než znaky na těle. barva nosu a okraje očí jsou u játrově zbarvených psů hnědé, u černých psů černé. Dalmatin se rodí bílý, znaky se vybarví až po čase.

Péče: K nevýhodám plemene patří, že téměř neustále líná. I mimo období línaní naleznete krátké bílé chlupy doma a na šatech. Uvolněné chlupy v srsti nejjednodušeji odstraníte gumovou masážní rukavicí. drápy udržujte krátké.
Výchova: Dalmatin se snadno učí, dokáže však být i notně tvrdohlavý. Pokud po něm žádate něco, do čeho nemá chuť, jako by náhle ohluchnul. Za žádoucí chování psa odměňte nějakým pamlskem a cvičení obměňujte, aby neztratil zájem. Tvrdá výchova napáchá jen škodu, přílišná tolerantnost však rovněž taky není na místě. zkuste najít zlatou střední cestu !
Pohyb: Plemeno bylo vyšlechtěno k doporovázení kočarů a dokáže běhat dlouhé kilometry, má velkou výdrž. Neznamená to však, že s ním musíte každý den absolvovat dlouhé vycházky. Dalmatin se umí výborně prižpůsobit okolnostem v rodině, i když mu na radosti nepřidá, má-li se spokojit s třemi zdravotními procházkami denně.
